Day 1: Negombo – Chilaw│ Welcome to Sri Lanka
As you touchdown in Sri Lanka at the international airport in Colombo, your driver will be waiting for you. You will be met by your English speaking driver and guide. You will drive one-and-a-half-hours north of Colombo to seaside town of Chilaw. Depending on your time of arrival you may be able to visit the Chilaw Cathedral Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Munneswaram temple. Your driver is available to drive you into the town centre for dinner, or if you prefer you can eat at your hotel before turning in for the night.
Day 2: Chilaw – Sigiriya │ Exploring Central Sri Lanka
After breakfast at your hotel you will be met by your driver who will transfer you to Sigiriya. This three-hour drive into central Sri Lanka takes you through beautiful landscapes and thick, green grass lands and rice fields. The journey into central Sri Lanka passes through traditional villages where you can stop and meet the local villagers as well as enjoy local, tea. You will arrive at your hotel in Sigiriya in the afternoon where you can spend the evening walking the grounds and gardens. Overnight in hotel.
Day 3: Sigiriya │ Climbing The Rock Fortress
Your driver will meet you in the morning after breakfast to take you to the legendary Rock Fortress of Sigiriya. Here you will climb the fortress to take in the panoramic views over Sigiriya. There approximately 1200 steps up to the top but it is well worth it with exhilarating views across. Once you have descended and refuelled with a delicious traditional Sri Lankan lunch, bicycles will be provided so you can cycle through the surrounding local villages. In the evening your driver will drive you to your hotel for the night.
Day 4: Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya │ Buddhist Relics and Minneriya National Park
In the morning after breakfast at your hotel your driver will take you to Polonnaruwa to visit the Bhuddist relics and ruins. Enjoy exploring this ancient town and learning about Sri Lanka’s history and the importance of the once capital city. After lunch you will go on a jeep safari at the Minneriya National Park where you will see elephants, leopards and the eminent Sri Lankan sloth bear. Watch as the sunsets over the untouched land that is home to countless mammals and birds. After the safari tour your driver will take you back to your hotel in Sigiriya for the night.
Day 5: Sigiriya – Dambulla – Kandy│Dambulla Cave Temples and Matale Spice Gardens
After breakfast your driver will take you into Dambulla to visit the Cave Temple. The Cave Temple is a masterpiece of art and architecture that beautifully displays Sri Lanka’s history and culture. From here your driver will take you to Kandy, via a spice garden in Matale. At the spice garden you will be able to see how spices, massage oild and ayurveidic medicine is made. From Matala you will go straight to your hotel in Kandy to check in. If you wish to head into Kandy for dinner, your driver will be available to take you into the city and back to your hotel for the night.
Day 6: Kandy│ Morning Ceremony at The Temple of The Tooth
An early start this morning in order to attend the morning ceremony at the famous Temple of The Tooth. Be sure to have your lotus flowers ready to share with Buddhists from all over the world. The temple is very impressive and is beautifully spiritual. After the ceremony you have the day at leisure to explore Kandy. If you prefer an organised tour of the city can be arranged. After your day in Kandy, your driver will meet you to drive you back to your hotel for the night.
Day 7: Kandy – Gingathena – Kandy│ Rafting the Kelani Ganga River
Be sure to eat a good, hearty breakfast in preparation for your activities today. After breakfast your driver will meet you to take you Gingathena, the river where ‘The Bridge Over The River Kwai’ was filmed, where you will go river rafting. The rafting is suitable for all levels and is an opportunity to see Sri Lanka from a different point of view. After rafting your driver will take you into Kandy for the afternoon where you can spend the afternoon at your own leisure, before returning to your hotel for the night.
Day 8: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya │ Tea Plantations and British Hotels
In the morning after breakfast your driver will be ready to take you to the home of the Tea Country, Nuwara Eliya. This two-and-a-half-hour drive south is beautifully green, showing you the lush forestry and jungles that make up Sri Lanka. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya you will visit a tea plantation and enjoy some freshly brewed tea with the field workers. Enjoy walking around the tea plantations and exploring the small factories before checking in to your colonial hotel in the hills that overlooks the tea plantations.
Day 9: Nuwara Eliya – Ella – Yala National Park│ Leopard Spotting at Yala National Park
Enjoy a leisurely morning at your hotel before being met by your driver who will take you south to to Ella where you will feel like you have gone back in time. The green landscapes, classic railway bridges and hillside houses are beautifully quaint create a stunning picture. After lunch in Ella your driver will take you to Yala National Park where you will be able to see leopards, elephants and alligators among other beautiful animals. Enjoy a traditional meal at a nearby hotel before checking in to your hotel for the night.
Day 10: Yala National Park – Tangalle – Mirissa│ From Tea Plantations to Rice Fields to the Seaside
After breakfast and a final look across the beautiful landscapes of Yala National Park your driver will take you to Mirissa via Tangalle. In Tangalle you will be met by your guide who will take you on a rice field trek through local villages. You can visit the local schools here and even take part in traditional Sri Lankan sport activities. From Tangalle your driver will transfer you to the coastal town of Mirissa where you will be spending the next few days. Enjoy dinner at your hotel before turning in for the night.
Day 11: Mirissa│ Seaside Relaxation
Enjoy a leisurely morning at your hotel before setting out to make the most of this beachside town. Mirissa is famous for it’s beautiful white sand beaches and spas. Spend the day relaxing on the beach, at a spa, coffee shop hopping or even doing yoga and Pilates at one of the many studios. If you prefer boat or sightseeing tours can be arranged during which you can visit the nearby towns, the harbour and if on a boat tour, visit the floating villages. Spend the evening in the town for dinner before returning to your hotel for the night.
Day 12: Mirissa│ Enjoying Sri Lanka’s South Coast
An early start this morning in order to be at harbour for a 630AM departure to head out to go dolphin and whale watching. Whilst aboad be sure to keep your eyes open to spot the giants of the ocean! Seeing these ocean creatures is a unique and once in a lifetime experience that will stick with you forever and we are sure that it will be all you can talk about over dinner! Your driver will meet you at the harbour and take you for dinner before returning to your hotel for the night.
Day 13: Mirissa – Ahangma - Mirissa│ Discovering Sri Lanka’s Beaches
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and morning before being met by your driver who will take you to Ahangma for the day. In Ahangma you will visit the Handunugoa Tea Estate where you will be able to taste all sorts of tea and even buy some to take home with you. There are also some beautiful spas here which offer massage and other treatments. Enjoy an early dinner in Ahangma and explore the streets and shops before your driver takes you back to your hotel in Mirissa for the night.
Day 14: Mirissa – Galle│ Galle Turtle Hatchery
After breakfast you will be met by your driver who will transfer you to the historic port of Galle to visit the turtle hatchery. Galle is a beautiful city that has so much to offer so be sure to explore what Galle has to offer. Venture through the old town and it’s fortifications before visiting the Japanese peace pagoda. There are many beautiful beaches in Galle but if you are all beached out, why not visit the Galle Fort Lighthouse and the Dutch Reformed Church to admire the architecture. After dinner in Galle you driver will take you to your Galle hotel for the night.
Day 15: Galle - Colombo│ Saying Goodbye to Sri Lanka
Depending on the time of your flight from the international airport in Colombo, after breakfast you may have the opportunity to explore Galle further and do some last minute souvenir shopping. From Galle your driver will transfer you to the airport to begin your travels back home. As you trip to Sri Lanka comes to an end we look back on our favourite moments and places. We bid you farewell at the airport but we look forward to organising your next holiday to Asia, exploring new places and creating new memories.
