Travelling from Sigiriya to Galle you will witness over 2000 years of history and visit numerous Wold Heritage Sites and national parks. As you leave the West Coast to go to the ancient city of Sigiriya, you will also be able to explore the surrounding parks. Kandy and Nuwara Eliya give enchanting glimpses of "Old Ceylon" that of the pioneering 19th century British tea planters as well as Buddhism in Sri Lanka of which Kandy is the undoubted capital. Heading south first you stop at Uda Walawe National Park the countries best leopard spotting area and then the intriguing Dutch fort of Galle and its neighbouring picture postcard beaches await.

Day 1: Colombo – Negombo│ Arriving in Sri Lanka

Welcome to Sri Lanka! You will be met at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo by your driver who will transfer you to your hotel in Negombo. Negombo is one of Sri Lanka’s largest cities on the west coast that is famous for its white sand beaches as well as the city’s cultural heritage. If you arrive early you will be able to explore the city discovering Sri Lanka’s charm on your first day. Your driver will take you to your hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 2: Negombo – Sigiriya │ Sigiriya at Sunset

After breakfast at your hotel in Negombo, your driver will meet you to transfer you to Sigiriya. This 3 hour drive from the west coast of Sri Lanka to central Sri Lanka takes you north through the beautiful cities of Kurunegala and Galewela where you can stop to enjoy the countryside views. Once checked-in and refreshed at your hotel in Sigiriya, your driver will take you to the remarkable Sigiriya Rock Fortress at sunset to watch the sky come alive with beautiful colours. Enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan dinner nearby before returning to your hotel for the night.

Day 3: Sigiriya – Minneriya – Sigiriya │ Sri Lankan Jeep Safari

Your day today begins with a delicious breakfast at your hotel before being taken to the incredible Minneriya National Park where you will begin a Safari Jeep Tour through the beautiful grounds. Minneriya National Park is home to over 25 species of mammals including the magnificent Sri Lankan elephants, monkeys, Sri Lankan Sambar Deer, and if you’re lucky you may catch a glimpse of the beautiful leopard, which is an endangered species. In the evening your driver will meet you to take you back to your hotel in Sigiriya for the night.

Day 4: Sigiriya – Anuradhapura - Sigiriya │ Exploring The Ancient City

In the morning after a leisurely breakfast your driver will meet you to take you to Anuradhapura, the Ancient City of Sri Lanka. Anuradhapura is the capital city of North Central Province and is famous for its well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sri Lankan civilization. The ancient city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and today you can discover and explore the beautiful ruins, transporting yourself back in time on a guided tour. Return to Sigiriya city centre for dinner before returning to your hotel for the night.

Day 5: Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya │ Exploring The Royal City

Spend the morning at your hotel enjoying the facsilities or instead exploring the local surroundings, visiting the traditional shops and meeting the lovely locals. In the midafternoon your driver will meet you at your hotel to the Royal City of Polonnaruwa. Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka and is made up of the monumental ruins of the garden-city which as created by Parakramabahu I in the 12 century. Polonnaruwa is one of Sri Lanka’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. After an afternoon of exploration return to your hotel in Sigiriya for dinner.

Day 6: Sigiriya – Dambulla – Matale – Kandy │From The Caves to Spice Gardens

After breakfast your driver will meet you to begin your journey to Kandy. En route you will stop in Dambulla where you will visit the Dambulla Caves, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, another of Sri Lanka’s World Heritage Sites. From Dambulla you will go onwards to Matale, home to a beautiful spice garden where you can walk the grounds and learn about the spice trade. From here you will head to your hotel in Kandy where you will spend the next couple of nights. Enjoy dinner at your hotel before turning in for the night.

Day 7: Kandy │ Kandy’s Iconic Temple of The Tooth

Begin your morning at a leisurely pace, enjoying the gentle atmosphere that Kandy offers. After breakfast your driver will be ready to take you to the iconic Temple of The Tooth, a Buddhist temple located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy. The Temple of The Tooth houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha and it has been for many years that this relic has played an important role in local politics. After exploring Kandy and enjoying dinner in town, your driver will take you back to your hotel.

Day 8: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya│ Railway Journey to the Tea Country

Spend the morning at your hotel before being met by your driver who will take you to the Kandy Train Station where you will board your train to Nuwara Eliya, into the Sri Lankan Tea Country. This train journey takes your south, passing through beautiful landscapes of lush greenery and misty mountains. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya you will be transferred to your colonial hotel for the rest of the day. Enjoy exploring the hotel grounds and nearby tea plantations before dinner.

Day 9: Nuwara Eliya – Horton Plains – Nuwara Eliya│ Exploring, Cruising and Discovering

In the morning after breakfast you will visit a tea factory and learn about the tea trade and you will even have the opportunity to enjoy a freshly brewed cup of tea with the hard workers. From here you will head to Horton Plains and cruise around this magnificent national park, taking in the beautiful landscapes and spotting animals. Enjoy lunch at Horton Plains before heading to visit the Hakgala Botnaical Gardens and Seetha Amman Temple. Return to your hotel in the evening for dinner.

Day 10: Nuwara Eliya – Ella│ At One With Nature in Ella

After breakfast you can either travel from Nuwara Eliya to Ella by car or by train. Train travel in Sri Lanka is a hugely popular mode of transport and takes you past lush greenery and beautiful landscapes rushing by either side. If you’re one for landscape photography we recommend you go to Ella by car so you can stop whenever you like to document your journey. Upon arrival in Ella you will can choose to do a sunset hike at Little Adam’s Peak or visit the Ravana Ella Falls before checking in to your hotel in central Ella for the night.

Day 11: Ella – Uda Walawe National Park│ Sunset Safari Tour

Enjoy your morning at your hotel in Nuwara Eliya or walking around the local area taking in the fresh air and beautiful sights, before being met by your driver will take you to south Sri Lanka towards Udawalawe National Park. On this 4 hour journey you will pass through cities and villages where you can stop for lunch and interact with the locals. In the evening upon arrival, you will be taken on a sunset safari jeep tour of Uda Walawe National Park. After the safari your driver will take you to your hotel for dinner.

Day 12: Uda Walawe National Park - Galle│ Visiting The South West Coast of Sri Lanka

After watching sunrise at Uda Walawe National Park and enjoying a delicious, home cooked breakfast, your driver will meet you to take you back to the west coast of Sri Lanka. You will begin the 3 hour journey to Galle passing through the city of Udawalawa and then south to Tangalle and Matara where you can enjoy a beachside lunch. Drive onwards to Galle where you can spend the evening exploring the city and enjoying a traditional Sri Lankan dinner before heading to your hotel for the night.

Day 13: Galle│ The Galle Fort

In the morning you will wake to the smell of sea breeze and perhaps even the sounds of crashing waves. After breakfast your driver will take you to the Galle Fort which is located in the Bay of Galle. The Galle Fort was first built by the Portuguese in 1588 and then fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century. To this day this fort maintains a polished appearance and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since it “illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions”. Return to your hotel after spending the day in Galle.

Day 14: Galle - Colombo│ Airport Transfer for Departure

Depending on your departure time you may have the time to spend the morning at your hotel and even exploring some more of Galle. Whatever the time, your driver will meet you and take you to the airport in Colombo for your departure flight. If you prefer, your driver can take you to Colombo earlier in the day to explore the capital city before boarding your flight home.
