Day 1: Colombo│ Welcome to Sri Lanka
Welcome to Sri Lanka! You will be met at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo by your driver who will transfer you to your hotel in Negombo. Negombo is one of Sri Lanka’s largest cities on the west coast that is famous for its white sand beaches as well as the city’s cultural heritage. If you arrive early you will be able to explore the city discovering Sri Lanka’s charm on your first day. Your driver will take you to your hotel where you will spend the night.
Day 2: Colombo – Sigiriya │ Sunset Views in Sigiriya
After breakfast at your hotel in Negombo, your driver will meet you to transfer you to Sigiriya. This 3 hour drive from the west coast of Sri Lanka to central Sri Lanka takes you north through the beautiful cities of Kurunegala and Galewela where you can stop to enjoy the countryside views. Once checked-in and refreshed at your hotel in Sigiriya, your driver will take you to the remarkable Sigiriya Rock Fortress at sunset to watch the sky come alive with beautiful colours. Enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan dinner nearby before returning to your hotel for the night.
Day 3: Sigiriya – Anuradhapura – Polonnaruwa –Sigiriya │ Exploring Sri Lanka’s Royal and Ancient Cities
Begin your day bright an early for a day of exploring and discovering Sri Lanka’s ancient cities. Head first north to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s Ancient city, which was abandoned after an invasion in 993. This ancient city is hidden away in the jungle, but the palaces, monasteries and monuments are not to be missed. From here head south Polonnaruwa, to visit another of Sri Lanka’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and explore the fort remains. Head back to Sigiriya in the evening to enjoy dinner in the city centre before returning to your hotel.
Day 4: Sigiriya – Dambulla – Matale – Kandy │ Discovering Sri Lanka’s History
After breakfast your driver will meet you to begin your journey to Kandy. En route you will stop in Dambulla where you will visit the Dambulla Caves, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, another of Sri Lanka’s World Heritage Sites. From Dambulla you will go onwards to Matale, home to a beautiful spice garden where you can walk the grounds and learn about the spice trade. From here you will head to your hotel in Kandy where you will spend the next couple of nights. Enjoy dinner at your hotel before turning in for the night.
Day 5: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya │ The Heart of The Tea Country
Begin your morning at a leisurely pace, enjoying the gentle atmosphere that Kandy offers. After breakfast your driver will be ready to take you to the iconic Temple of The Tooth, a Buddhist temple located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy. The Temple of The Tooth houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha and it has been for many years that this relic has played an important role in local politics. After exploring Kandy and enjoying dinner in town, your driver will take you back to your hotel.
Day 6: Nuwara Eliya – Horton Plains – Nuwara Eliya│ Unforgettable Landscapes
Spend the morning at your hotel before being met by your driver who will take you to the Kandy Train Station where you will board your train to Nuwara Eliya, into the Sri Lankan Tea Country. This train journey takes your south, passing through beautiful landscapes of lush greenery and misty mountains. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya you will be transferred to your colonial hotel for the rest of the day. Enjoy exploring the hotel grounds and nearby tea plantations before dinner.
Day 7: Nuwara Eliya – Galle│ Exploring, Cruising and Discovering
In the morning after breakfast at your hotel your driver will meet you to transfer you to Galle. This is a long drive south will take you through some of Sri Lanka’s thickest and most lush greenery, with beautiful landscapes stretching out in front of you. Whilst on the road you will stop at small villages to discover Sri Lankan day to day life as well as enjoy authentic cuisine. Upon arrival in Galle you will check-in to your hotel where you can eat dinner and rest after your long day of travel.
Day 8: Galle - Colombo│ Transport to Airport for Departure
Today’s rising sun marks the last day of your holiday in Sri Lanka with Shanti Travel. After sharing stories over breakfast, your driver will meet you to take you to the international airport in Colombo. Flight dependent, you may have the time to head into Galle or Colombo to do some last minute souvenir shopping as memories from your Sri Lankan holiday.
