Touchdown in Vietnam
Upon arrival at Noi Bai international airport in Hanoi, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day exploring your local surroundings and settling into your beautiful hotel. Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam bursting with energy and culture, with something to offer wherever you look. Take in all the new sights, sounds and smells but be sure to look both ways when crossing the road! We recommend an early night at the hotel in preparation for your trip across Vietnam.
Good Morning Vietnam!
After breakfast you will a guided tour of Hanoi and visit some of Vietnam’s most famous landmarks. First you will visit the Presidential Palace and Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, then onwards to the One Pillar Pagoda followed by a visit to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university. In the evening you will have dinner at KOTO, a restaurant that helps disadvantaged youth of Vietnam by training them in hospitality and sharing knowledge. In many ways KOTO, and it’s ethos ‘Know One, Teach One’ is symbolic to Vietnam as a whole. After dinner return to your hotel.
hanoi City Tour
This morning you will visit the impressive Museum of Ethnology dedicated to Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. The grounds are beautifully kept and a great escape from Hanoi traffic. In the afternoon you will go by cyclo to the Hanoi Old Quarter and explore this quaint part of town. After a relaxing afternoon you will attend a Water Puppet Show, a unique Vietnamese art form where the men and women stand waist deep in water making puppets come to life through movement and sound on the surface of the water. Return to your hotel after a night at your leisure.
By Train to Sapa from hanoi
Spend the morning and early afternoon at leisure, exploring the authentic city of Hanoi or simply resting at your hotel, enjoying the top class facilities. In the afternoon you will take the luxury overnight train to Sapa. The overnight train to Sapa is a unique experience in itself, offering a luxurious insight into Vietnamese life. The trains are fitted with soft sleepers and air conditioning to guarantee a comfortable overnight journey to the mountain town of Sapa.
Rural hau Thao - North Vietnam at it’s best
You will arrive early at Lao Cai train station and will be transferred to the local town of Sapa. The small mountainous town is charming in every sense of the word and you will feel a world away from bustling Hanoi. The quaint buildings and colorful markets are a must-see. After checking into your hotel and enjoying a delicious breakfast you will visit the Black H’mong village of Hau Thao and Sa Seng, followed by a short trek to Giang Ta Chai village where your driver will be waiting for you to take you back to your hotel in Sapa for the evening.
Ta Phin: Meeting The Villagers
After a hearty breakfast visit Ma Tra and Ta Phin village, a village home to the Red Dzao. Here you will meet the villagers and learn about village life in the mountains of Vietnam. You can walk through the rice fields, explore the small village or simply interact with the friendly villagers. You will be driven back to Lao Cai for a traditional Vietnamese lunch and then take the scenic route back to Hanoi by car, taking is some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Once in Hanoi, your driver will take you back to your hotel for the night.
Limestone Islands Cruise
You will leave for Ha Long Bay after an early breakfast. Once in Ha Long Bay you will board the V’Spirit Classic Cruise for lunch amongst the limestone islands. After lunch you will cruise around the UNESCO World Heritage Site, during which you can explore the Sung Sot Cave, considered the most beautiful cave in Ha Long Bay, as well as kayak around the Drum Cave area. Watch sunset from the deck of the junk boat and soak in the beauty of this fascinating place, before dinner on board. Spend the night on board in luxurious cabins.
Swimming at Titov Island!
In the morning you can join a Tai Chi class on the boat or continue to explore Ha Long Bay. After breakfast you will cruise by boat to Titov Island where you can swim or even climb to the top of the island to have a panoramic view of Ha Long Bay. On your way back to the harbor you will go via Ba Hang fishing village and Dog Islet whilst enjoying a traditional Vietnamese lunch onboard. Once docked your driver will take you back to Hanoi to catch an evening flight to Hue. Check in to your hotel in Hue for the night.
Exploring Colonial Vietnam
After breakfast at the hotel you will board a dragon boat to tour the Perfume River and visit Thien Mu Pagoda, after which you will visit the Imperial Citadel in Hue, an unmissable landmark. In the afternoon you will go by cyclo to Hope Centre, a charity for disabled people in Hue, where you can explore the grounds and meet the charity founders. Near Hope Centre you will find the house and beautifully kept gardens of the former Princess Ngoc Son. In the evening you can explore the city at your own leisure and return to the hotel in your own time.
The Legendary hai Van Pass
In the morning your driver will take you to Dong Ba, a traditional Vietnamese market where you can buy anything from fresh fruits and flowers to small charms and summer hats. From the market you will drive to Da Nang via Hai Van Pass stopping at Red Beach, the notorious beach where American soldiers docked during the war. Whilst in Da Nang you will visit the Cham Museum. Continue your journey to Hoi An where in the evening you will attend a traditional Vietnamese cooking class and enjoy the dishes you have cooked for dinner. Return to your hotel after dinner.
Onwards to South Vietnam
After breakfast your day will begin with a walking tour of Hoi An where you will visit merchant houses and the 400 year old Japanese covered bridge, a testament to Vietnamese history. Whilst on the walking tour of Hoi An you will see the Faifo port followed by Tan Ky House and the National Museum. Remember to stay hydrated whilst exploring Hoi An! Transfer to the airport and take evening flight to Ho Chi Minh City where your driver will take you to your prestigious South Vietnam hotel.
The Unmissable Cu Chi Tunnels
In the morning your driver will take you to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Here you will watch a wartime propaganda film as well as learn how the Cu Chi Tunnels were constructed and pivotal during the war. You can explore the maze of tunnels as well as see the various mantraps and remains of an American tanks, and the numerous bomb craters. In the afternoon your driver will take you to the War Remnant museum, followed by a trip to Binh Tay market. Dinner will be served on a beautiful cruise boat on the Saigon River before returning to your hotel for the night.
Cruising to Dragon Island
In the morning you will be driven to My Tho to board a boat on the Mekong River and cruise downstream to Dragon Island. You will sail onwards through Xep Canal to a local village where you can stop by a farmer’s house to learn about his trade. From here you will be taken by horse cart to where you will board a small rowing boat that will take you to lunch. After lunch you will cruise upstream to My Tho via a former soldier’s house who fought the Khmer Rouge. Your driver will take you back to your hotel for an evening at your own leisure in Ho Chi Minh City.
After breakfast at your hotel your vietnam holiday with Shanti Travel will be coming to an end. Depending on your departure time you will have time in the morning to wander round Ho Chi Minh City and buy any last minute gifts for friends and family. Your driver will be ready at your hotel several hours before you departure to transfer you to the international airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
