Day 1: Colombo International Airport - Polgahawela
Ayubowan ! Welcome to Sri Lanka ! You are greeted at the airport , you take a seat in your car , get to know your driver and take the road for Polgahawela . Make your first stop at the temple of Waduwawa Bambaragala . Hand in hand , you climb the steps of this cave temple dating back to the sixteenth century. Perhaps at the top do you have a thought for the stonemason who was a prisoner and received his freedom through the love of his wife. He got freedom when he discovered a knife that came to him with his food on a rope. After this step outside, and continue to the Polgahawela trails. This is the bird park ideal to spend your first night of your honeymoon. Enjoy the serenity and sweetness of the Sri Lankan countryside.
Day 2: Polgahawela - Sigiriya
In the morning, take the road to Sigiriya. Along the way, visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage , which houses a few hundred residents. The opportunity is given to you to give the bottle to the baby elephants and watch the whole family bathe in the river. Continue to Sigiriya and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon , you climb the fortress of Sigiriya . Halfway up , you greet the famous " Demoiselles " immortalized on the walls of rock that zealously guard the secret of their identity. Courtesans of King Kassapa? Representations of the goddess Tara? The mystery remains !
Day 3: Sigiriya
In the morning, leave for Polonnaruwa whose ruins recall the glorious past of this ancient capital . If you have never rode together, it’s now or never! Ride a bicycle around the royal palaces, Hindu temples and Buddhists swarming the landscaped site and dismount to approach the giant Buddha statues carved in granite . And if your heart tells you, walk along the lake and push until Wewa Potgul Vihara , the " dagoba - library " and the huge statue of Parakramabahu I of mysterious origins . After this excursion into the history of Sri Lanka , back to the hotel . In the afternoon , as dressed explorers, you jump into a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park , famous for its huge annual gathering of elephants.
Day 4: Sigiriya - Knuckles Range
Early in the morning, climb on to hot air balloon and enjoy the experience of a lifetime. Later, visit the Dambulla Rock Temple caves which contain an impressive collection of Buddha statues and beautiful colorful frescoes . Go to the south of the island, crossing a region where culture is spices. Shortly before arriving in Kandy , you veer east towards the Knuckles Range, a mountain range whose set of vertices is like a closed fist that UNESCO has declared a World Heritage Site . < BR >
Day 5: Knuckles Range
Enjoy this day to explore this beautiful mountain region . Hand in hand , go on hiking trails , breathe the mountain air and compose your own hymn to nature !
Day 6: Knuckles Range - Kandy
In the morning, you can reach the heart of the island in Kandy , the last capital of the Sinhala kings and sacred city of the Buddhists. No doubt you will succumb to the charm of the lake where a Sinhalese king erected his palace the Dalada Maligawa , colloquially called " Temple of the Tooth " where a tooth of Buddha is carefully preserved . After a panoramic tour of Kandy , stroll through the botanical garden. Enjoy a romantic stroll in a carefully organized maze where hundreds of species of trees , plants and flowers coexist . If you have a penchant for orchids, make a detour to the greenhouse where they flourish in all serenity! After the last photo, cheek against cheek , on the bridge over the Mahaweli Ganga , reach Kandy to attend a Kandyennes dance. The evening ceremony is ideal to visit the Temple of the Tooth, when coated in white, the faithful come to lay offerings.
Day 7 : Kandy - Hatton
After a last look at the huge statue of Buddha overlooking Kandy, you go to the station . On the rails, you live a great experience with the smiling Sri Lankan people. With windows wide open, gaze at the blue waters of the Kothmale reservoir before heading into the world of the famous " Ceylon Tea ". Your driver will wait for you at Hatton and upon reaching your hotel, you will discover the wonderful landscapes sculpted by the pioneers of tea. < BR >
Day 8: Hatton and surroundings
If you are athletic and willing to shorten your night, you can choose to follow the pilgrims route to the summit of Adam’s Peak *, one of the most sacred places in Sri Lanka . Undoubtedly, this sunrise will be forever etched in the history of your relationship ! If you opt for a more relaxed morning , enjoy this day to walk through the tea plantations, discover beautiful waterfalls and get acquainted with the world of tea while visiting the village and factory workers .
