Trip highlights
  • An ideal approach to Tibet
  • 3 days of walking around Mount Kailash
  • Discovering the region's cultural and natural heritage

Legends associate Mount Kailash with the Buddha and his disciples, Guru Rimpoche, one of the forerunners of Buddhism in Tibet, and with the revered Tibetan saint, the yogi Milarepa. Buddhists associate Kailash with a tantric deity (yidam). According to them, it would be the abode of Chakrasamvara.

For Tibetans of the Bon faith, the region represents the place where Shenrab Miwoche, the founder of their tradition, was born and taught.

The mountain that Hindus call Kailash ('Brilliant as Crystal') and Tibetans call Tise or Kang Rinpoche ('Precious Jewel of Snow') is considered the most sacred in the world for Tibetans.

The historian Giuseppe Tucci, a renowned Tibetologist, was one of the few foreigners able to travel there in 1935 and 1948 and was struck by this grandiose peak. Its isolation and difficult access have helped preserve the site's wild character.

Mount Kailash and its surroundings (particularly Lake Manasarovar) hold deep spiritual value for the faithful. For centuries, many sages, saints and pilgrims have undertaken perilous pilgrimages, travelled hundreds of miles, and climbed high-altitude passes to approach this majestic symbol of their religion and beliefs.
