Trekking Tips and Practical Information

To explore Sinharaja, entrance is by guided tour only—local guides are mandatory and greatly enrich your visit. Expect to pay about €9 (2700 LKR) for entry and a guide, payable in cash. Most treks last from 3 to 7 hours, ranging from gentle walks to energetic hikes, with opportunities to visit waterfalls like Kakunalla and Pathonoya for swimming or fish therapy.

The reserve is open between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with the last entrance at 4:30 PM. For the best wildlife encounters, start early. Night visits are only allowed with experienced guides.
