24 Hours to Discover Jaipur!

This morning, we wake up in Pushkar. The January sun is only just beginning to warm us, while the fresh air and lush greenery of the Pushkar Resort gardens give us the perfect boost of energy for the day ahead. After a quick visit to a lakeside hotel, we set off towards Jaipur through the peaceful countryside of Rajasthan. Before long, we find ourselves caught in kilometres of traffic, as the morning fog has significantly slowed the flow of vehicles.

At last, we arrive in Jaipur beneath a brilliant blue sky. We enjoy a light lunch on the terrace of the Foresta hotel restaurant, the perfect way to recharge before exploring the city. While my colleagues take the opportunity to visit several hotels, I head into Jaipur with our French-speaking guide and driver.

Jaipur’s Must-See Highlights in One Day

Our first stop is the spectacular Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, whose unique architecture was designed to allow the women of the royal harem to observe the outside world without being seen. We then continue to the Jantar Mantar observatory. Fascinated by the scale and ingenuity of its astronomical instruments, I listen closely as our guide shares stories about Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II and his passion for astronomy. Just a few steps away stands the City Palace, another of Jaipur’s iconic landmarks. Here, I explore several courtyards, an exhibition of traditional costumes, and magnificent halls, including the impressive Armoury, a true witness to the region’s rich history. My visit becomes even more memorable when I spontaneously join a group of Indian visitors for a photo, delighted by our unexpected encounter. We continue wandering through Jaipur’s authentic streets, learning a few new Hindi words as we search for a delicious cup of spiced chai. These warm exchanges, everyday local scenes, and the charm of the narrow lanes set the rhythm for a delightful afternoon.

Dinner at Chokhi Dhani and an Introduction to Rajasthani Culture

For dinner, we head to the lively Chokhi Dhani village on the outskirts of Jaipur. A festive atmosphere awaits, with traditional Rajasthani cuisine served as a thali enjoyed while seated on floor cushions, puppet shows, elephant rides, camel-cart rides, and charming handicraft stalls. The evening is filled with colourful discoveries and delicious flavours. The day comes to an end as we make our way back to the hotel, not before taking one last look at the beautifully illuminated Amber Fort.
