The Shanti Travel Difference in Ladakh

Choosing Shanti Travel for your trip to India guarantees an experience shaped by local insight and over a decade of expertise. With established teams based in New Delhi and Leh, we specialize in organizing bespoke and small-group trekking adventures through the enchanting landscapes of Ladakh. Whether you seek guided individual itineraries or wish to join a group of like-minded explorers, our flexibility and passion for Ladakhi culture ensure each trek is unique and rewarding.

Authenticity and Expertise

Our director, a former mountain guide, has greatly influenced the team’s love for adventure, making Ladakh the heart of our Himalayan journeys. Known as “Little Tibet,” Ladakh’s Tibetan Buddhist heritage, timeless rocky scenery, and rich culture promise travelers a profound encounter with the "Land of High Passes." Whether you are an experienced hiker or a beginner, there are treks in Ladakh to suit all abilities, from gentle valley explorations to high-altitude challenges.

Best Season and Access to Ladakh

The optimal trekking season runs from June to September when clear skies and temperate weather (typically 15°C–30°C) make for ideal conditions. During the winter, specialty treks like the Frozen River (Chadar) Trek are possible from January to February. Leh, the gateway to Ladakh, is accessible by direct flight from Delhi or, for the adventurous, across the legendary Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways, which are open between May/June and October. Winter road access is limited due to heavy snow.

Proper acclimatization is essential: we recommend spending a few days in Leh before trekking to adapt to the high altitudes.

Permits and Practical Formalities

Trekkers must obtain specific permits, including the Inner Line Permit (ILP) for restricted areas such as Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, and Tso Moriri. Certain border regions also require a Protected Area Permit (PAP), especially for foreign travelers. Permits can be secured online or at the Leh Deputy Commissioner's Office, with fees around ₹400 plus daily charges. Trekking in groups or with a certified guide is mandatory for certain regions.

We provide detailed support on everything—route selection, trek difficulty, climate, paperwork, health recommendations, and packing essentials—ensuring your journey is safe and well-prepared.

Rich Cultural Experience and Festivals

Planning your trek around Ladakh’s renowned Buddhist festivals, like the Hemis Festival, offers a unique window into local tradition. Other unmissable 2025 dates include Sindhu Darshan in June, Korzok Gustor in July, the Ladakh Festival in September, Dosmochey in February, and Losar in December, giving trekkers vibrant opportunities to celebrate edge-of-the-world culture alongside their adventures.

Environmental Commitment

Shanti Travel is dedicated to responsible tourism and eco-friendly practices in Ladakh. We collaborate exclusively with local providers and support community projects focused on conservation and restoration, such as the Matho Museum Project. Each season, we organize trail clean-ups and educate both clients and staff on minimizing environmental impact by following "Leave No Trace" principles, conserving water, and managing waste responsibly.

Comprehensive Support and Service

Our presence in Leh and Delhi ensures continuous support throughout your itinerary. Upon arrival, we offer detailed guidance for a smooth acclimatization process and remain on hand for any last-minute adjustments or needs during your stay. Shanti Travel’s experts are accessible 24/7, and our programs, like the Ladakh Express, are guaranteed departures regardless of group size.

Tailor-Made Combinations

Extend your experience by pairing Ladakh with other signature Indian destinations. Enjoy a rejuvenating journey through Rajasthan’s majestic forts, highlighted in our article on five reasons to travel to Rajasthan, or include an inspiring visit to the Taj Mahal.

By traveling with Shanti Travel, you benefit from direct local rates, support sustainable communities, and enjoy seamless organization for a remarkable adventure in Ladakh and beyond.
