Sri Lanka is a small island part of the Indian subcontinent. Only 30 miles away from India, Sri Lanka has a total area of 65,000 km² and more than 21 million inhabitants. Due to its location within the tropics between 5° 55' to 9° 51' North latitude and between 79° 42' to 81° 53' East longitude, one could define the climate of the island as tropical.
Coming to the pearl of the Indian Ocean, you can expect temperatures around 27°C. Nuwara Eliya is the city where the temperature is the lowest, don't forget to pack your sweater for the chilly evenings. The weather over the cultural triangle and the tea area is pleasant all year round, only the monsoons on the coasts are to be avoided to make sure you make the most of your stay. From April to October we recommend a beach stay on the East coast and from October to April the best areas to enjoy warm weather and nice waves are the South and West coasts.
Sri Lanka is lying in the Indian Ocean. With 830 miles of coastline, there are plenty of beaches yet to be explored. In the heart of the country, the mount Knuckles are the perfect place to enjoy a long hike. The central highlands will give you lush green tea plantations to see. There, is the culminating point of Sri Lanka : Pidurutalagala, 2500 m² high. Nestled between the coastline and the highlands you'll find Sinharaja forest, a designated UNESCO World heritage site. The 147 km² of primary forest is home to a great number of endemic species such as lizards, squirrels and spiders.
